Short Courses

One Year Course Introduction

This is an opportunity for students who wish to benefit from LPMAM expertise and training but do not require the complete programme of study that culminates in a qualification. Students on the Year-In route are fully-enrolled members of the LPMAM student body and benefit enormously from their equal access to the LPMAM’s resources e.g. library, computers, practice facilities.

The purpose of the One Year option is to:

  • enable the student to benefit from one year of conservatoire education from a leading provider
  • provide the student with a relevant individualised course of study according to their own personal requirements
  • provide the student with performance opportunities of a degree standard (with the approval of your Academic Tutor and Head of Study)
  • offer supporting academic subjects as identified by the student and the tutor
  • provide the opportunity for progression through examination
  • provide a student leaving the One Year programme with a full transcript of their studies and experiences during their time with LPMAM – in order to gain a degree or diploma you must follow the full relevant course of study

The One Year options that LPMAM offers are:

Gap Year

Ideal for students contemplating their future course of study, or particularly considering a full-time undergraduate programme at LPMAM or another institution. You can be in the process of applying for a place or have already received an offer. The Audition requirements are the same as for those entering on to the BMus Programme.

Year Abroad

for undergraduate students [Bachelor, e.g. BMus]

In the current global marketplace it can be an invaluable experience for non-UK music degree students from elsewhere to experience a year at the LPMAM as part of their professional development. This is particularly of benefit to those studying on courses where there is no current exchange programme in place.

We consider applicants on a case by case basis and will consider you attending for part of one academic year (one or two terms, or a semester-equivalent period). It is preferable if you are able to personally attend an audition (following the same BMus criteria), but in certain circumstances we will consider a recording. Please contact us directly for details of this opportunity.

Organ Foundation

For candidates wishing to prepare for an Oxbridge organ scholarship, or those wishing to improve and develop their organ/choral skills before further formal university or conservatoire training, the Organ Foundation offers students a gap-year relevant to their future. Please view our audition requirements in the Organs Auditions section of the LPMAM website.

Independent Study Programme

[Foundation or Advanced]

For candidates looking for an experience designed to suit their individual needs through a tailored and flexible approach, the LPMAM are able to offer a one year Independent Study Programme. This individualised programme enables a candidate to select components from the BMus or MMus degrees, as well as the PG Diploma/Artist Diploma Programmes, to create their own modular course based on their own requirements and experience. This is available to candidates in consideration of their own individual circumstances.

Please Note:

International Students:
For international students looking to benefit from the One Year options, you must hold a valid UK, EU or EEA passport. These programmes are not eligible for UK study visa
