The Tom Acton Memorial Trust: This is a specific trust supporting young musicians under 25 from Essex (by birth, education or residence) by financially assisting with instruments, tuition fees, as well as additional expenses of studying. The Trust supports individuals based on merit and will require an application supported by a teacher’s recommendation. Additionally, students are viewed in terms of need, but Awards can be granted up to a maximum of £750.

Sir James Caird’s Travelling Scholarship: This Scholarship Scheme is available for grants and scholarships to Scottish Post-Graduate students. Initially tenable for 1 year, they may be renewed for up to a further 2 years. Their Closing Date is in January, and additionally they have no entry fee.

The Countess of Munster Musical Trust: This Trust offers awards on an annual basis for those undertaking postgraduate study in the UK and overseas. The awards are open to all British and Commonwealth music students under the age of 25 (28 for singers). They consider instrumentalists, singers, composers and conductors undertaking performance based courses like those at the LPMAM. Additionally, the Trust offers interest-free Instrument Purchase Loans for those who previously received an award from them starting out on a platform career under the age of 28. There is no entry fee.

The Cross Trust: For graduates and postgraduates of Scottish birth or parentage. The Trust’s aims to encourage and enable development of performance participations in music and drama. Financial difficulties may be taken in to account, but applicants must demonstrate exceptional talent.

C H Dixon Charitable Trust: This Trust is able to provide funding for English musicians of all ages.

The Elizabeth Eagle-Bott Memorial Fund: This Fund makes annual awards of between £5000 – £20,000 to visually impaired organists as well as other classical musicians, under the age of 30.They offer funding for any musical activity undertaken in preparation for a career in the musical profession.

Fulbright Commission: These are Postgraduate Student Awards available to British or EU citizens normally resident in the UK. Students need to have a desire to study in the USA at Postgraduate Level, and must hold a 2:i Hons. Degree (or equivalent) from a UK University. The awards provide travel and maintenance support for 9 months, although the award does carry an expectation of a second year.

Oppenheim-John Downes Memorial Trust: This Trust aims to enable the very poorest to pursue their creative vocation despite their poverty. They present Awards to a variety of artists from writers to painters, dancers to musicians. The Sidney Perry Foundation: Grants are given to overseas students, or those who are reading medicine after taking another first degree and therefore do not qualify for any support.

Martin Music Trust: The Trust offers funding to study either in the UK alone (for overseas students), or in either the UK or abroad (for UK citizens) for applicants who are under 25 at their cut-off date. You are required to be studying for a performing career as a soloist, chamber musician or orchestral player. Unfortunately the Trust’s support does not extend to other performers including organists, singers, guitarists as well as academic studies. You may apply as many times as you like but all awards must be taken up within the following 12 month period. A Registration Fee of £20 is required and auditions take place over the Easter Holiday period.

The Worshipful Company of Musicians: John Clementi Collard Fellowship – this is an Honorarium of £5,000 awarded to professional musician of growing renown and experience, aged 27-50. The aim is to provide financial support to a person of outstanding ability who is prevented, due to finances, of developing and utilising their talent. Applicants need to demonstrate excellence in one or more of the higher branches of musical activity: composition; research; performance (including conducting).
